Loops are not starting

Max 5.1.1, mlrV 27.11.9
Hi,
All seems to work, samples can be loaded, beat indicator works,
even groups work but samples are simply not being played. When
pressing the first button on a row it lights steadily, but does not
move, and nothing is played.
mlr works perfect in the same setup..
any ideas?
