slice mode request......
Reported by edison | December 7th, 2008 @ 05:25 PM
how tough would it be .... to have different slice modes..... as in ....
1....play on hold.... 2....play on tap.....
as in permitting release on the slices.... im thinking, non scrolling mlr....... whoa..... keep up the insanely amazing work doods...

I think what he's saying is that a second slice mode should be added that simply plays back the slice activated when pressed, regardless of how long it is held down. I'd like to second this idea.

yesyes exactly....! but actually.... ive been really messing w/ ableton & the monome in MIDI mode..... and all of this is possible that way..... i even got mlr style chops...... (inaccurate lights though.....) im kinda having fun with that right now.... either way my machine cant keep up with my button pressing while running mlrV..... the LEDs just arent even useful.... i need 6 groups and i know that that is gonna slow things even more..... hate to say it.....but i think mlrV is a no go for me...... it sux....because everytime all the sick features come out that ive been waiting for......the button press accuracy and timing is comprimised...... eh well..... my shitty computer is to blame..... id buy a new one .....but im bum style broke...... love you guys though..... sick release.!~~~!!@@(&^#(!)&(^()(#+!!!!|!{{}{}{]

hey edison. optimising mlrV is something that i wanted to do before releasing it, but it was never very seriously done. i'll try and get in there soon and clean / speed things up.
what is your CPU usage looking like when using mlrV (both in max5 and in activity monitor etc). i know you probably already know the jazz but fiddling with vector sizes can lead to increased accurary, and overdrive is a must for this mlr (and interrupt is a must for patterns).

i think with live, you have to slice up a loop first, no? in mlr, you could just drag, select, and chop. and delay. while looping other stuff classic mlr-style. it's a cool idea, but it doesn't seem as important as a lot of the other stuff right now.

hey man... in ableton you can just drop a file... select what portion you want to play copy & paste.....then move the selection boundaries over..... super easy..... and since its running in MIDI ....(for me) there is NO lag..... you lose pattern record......but i dont really use it ever.... yea.....i know its not "important" but it could be dope..... gated slices have their place..... but slices playing through is 100 times more musical..... as far as accuracy..... i think that the way i play the monome relies completely on how fast the slices can bounce from one to the other..... latency (even if slightly different) makes a huge difference.... so ..... yea...... thats allllllllll
